Engineering professor elected vice chair of worldwide computing society

KALAMAZOO, Mich.鈥Dr. Ajay Gupta, professor and acting chair of 澳门五分彩's Department of Computer Science, has been elected vice chair of the Technical Activities Committee of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Computer Society for 2022. The committee oversees the 30 technical special groups and their over 220 annual conferences worldwide. He is also a non-voting member of the organization鈥檚 board of governors.

鈥淗aving a role in the oldest computing society alongside major players in our field worldwide allows me to see many different perspectives and approaches on where the computing field is headed, what the push will be in the next 5 to 30 years and what different policies are being formulated by various stakeholders,鈥 says Gupta. 鈥淚t鈥檚 good for 澳门五分彩 to be on the map with one of the main professional societies in computing.鈥

A prolific researcher, Gupta has published hundreds of research articles. His current research interests are in the areas of high-performance computing, internet of things, proteogenomics and data analytics.

Gupta joined 澳门五分彩's computer science faculty in 1989. He earned doctoral and  Master of Science degrees in computer science from Purdue University. He also holds a master's degree in mathematics and statistics from the University of Cincinnati and a bachelor鈥檚 degree from Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani in India.

Gupta's tenure as vice chair began this month and runs through Dec. 31, 2022.
