Career Coach at the Upjohn Institute

My job functions as a case manager and I work on policy creation for clean slate/record expungement programming.

If you had a campus job or internship, how did they impact your career development?

I did work while in college, on campus and off at the Kalamazoo Promise. I was involved in several program management classes and the creation of the Solidarity Fund for WMU students and staff (in response to COVID-19). I serve as the VP for the fund.

Which of your skills had the biggest impact on your success?

My program design and evaluation skills have proved wildly beneficial in my professional career.

What advice do you have for others pursuing a career similar to yours?

I would encourage others pursuing jobs in nonprofits, to focus on an area they care about and find their direction from there. For me, I always found myself focusing on equal access. Working in local education and now employment NGOS has really allowed me to focus on that.
